The CommUnity near-Surface Permafrost (CUSP) dataset brings together geographically distributed observations of near-surface permafrost and related environmental attributes in a common resource. The compilation is designed to reduce the data-discovery and harmonization burden that often limits large-scale permafrost analysis.
Presented at the 2024 AGU Fall Meeting, the project emphasizes data structures and supporting properties suitable for artificial-intelligence and machine-learning workflows. Its goal is to enable reproducible model development and comparison across regions where observation density, measurement practices, and landscape conditions vary substantially.
